La storia e le curiosità di un’altra cover: è la copertina di The Crying Light utimo cd di Antony & The Johnsons (Secretly Canadian, 2009). Antony Hegarty ha scelto per la copertina del nuovo album, uscito a fine gennaio, una fotografia di Naoya Ikegami del 1977. La foto ritrae il danzatore butoh Kazuo Ohno: The Crying Light, infatti, è dedicato al danzatore giapponese. Nato nel 1906 a Hakodate, Hokkaido, Kazuo Ohno è stato maestro e ispiratore della particolare danza conosciuta come butoh. Antony Hegarty è stato così affascinato da quest’arte tanto da considerare Ohno come “un antenato della mia arte“. Tra l’altro anche Antony si occupa di arti visive e il suo ultimo lavoro The Creek è stato esposto alla Isis Gallery di Londra.
Anche sulla copertina del precedente album, Another World (Rough Trade, 2008), Antony ha usato una foto di Kazuo Ohno: si tratta sempre di un ritratto in bianco e nero scattato dal fotografo francese Pierre-Olivier Deschamps nel 1984.
Nel 2006 è stato pubblicato anche un libro fotografico con le immagini delle performances di Kazuo Ohno: Butterfly Dream, pubblicato da Seigensha con le foto di Eikoh Hosoe.
